How to get more Google reviews with your review link
Most happy customers are willing to leave a review — they just won’t go looking for the review box. A direct Google review link removes every step between “sure, I’ll leave you a review” and actually doing it. One tap opens the review window for your business with the stars ready to click. No searching your name, no scrolling past competitors, no hunting for the “Write a review” button.
1. Generate your link and QR code
Search for your business above (or paste your Place ID), then copy the link. It looks like search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=…. That long code at the end is your Place ID — Google’s permanent identifier for your business listing. It doesn’t change when you edit your hours, photos or description, so you can print the QR code with confidence.
Always test the link with your own phone before you share it widely. Tap it and make sure the review window opens for the right business, especially if you have more than one location or an old duplicate listing.
2. Ask at the right moment
The best time to ask is right after a good experience: when you hand over the keys, finish the haircut, wrap up the job or the customer says thank you. Keep it simple and honest — “It would really help us if you left a quick Google review. Here’s the link.” Then send it straight away while the moment is fresh.
3. Put the link everywhere customers already look
- Text it after each appointment or job — text messages get opened far more often than emails.
- Add it to your email signature, invoices and receipts.
- Print the QR code on a counter card, table tent, business card or the back of your invoice.
- Add a “Review us on Google” button to your website footer and thank-you pages.
4. Ask everyone — and never pay for reviews
Google’s rules are clear: you can ask every customer for an honest review, but you can’t offer discounts, gifts or entries into a draw in exchange, and you shouldn’t only ask the customers you expect to be happy (sometimes called “review gating”). Reviews that break the rules can be removed, and your listing can be penalized. The good news is that a simple, consistent ask works — businesses that ask every customer, every time, tend to build reviews steadily without doing anything risky.
5. Reply to every review
Thank people for positive reviews by name and mention what they liked. For a negative review, stay calm, apologise for the experience, and offer to sort it out offline. Future customers read your replies as much as the reviews themselves; a thoughtful reply to a bad review often builds more trust than a page full of five stars.
Printing tips for your QR code
Download the SVG for printing — it stays sharp at any size. Keep the QR code at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide for a counter card, leave a white border around it, and print dark on light. Add a short line above it such as “Enjoyed your visit? Scan to leave us a review.” The A6 counter-card and business-card PDFs above are print-ready with your business name filled in: print, slip into a stand and put it by the till.
Want reviews to come in automatically?
Tap-to-review NFC cards are even faster than a QR code: the customer just taps the card with their phone. Aethely’s Growth plan includes an NFC review card and automatic review-request texts after each job; Pro adds a second card and a counter stand. See NFC review cards →
Questions, answered.
What is a Google review link?
It’s a short web address that opens the “write a review” box for your business on Google, so customers don’t have to search for you first.
Is this tool really free?
Yes. No sign-up and no email required. Generate your link, QR code and printable card and use them however you like.
What if my business doesn’t show up in the search?
Try adding your street or neighbourhood. If it still doesn’t appear, use Google’s Place ID Finder and paste the ID (it usually starts with “ChIJ”).
Can I print the QR code?
Yes. Download the SVG or the print-ready PDF (A6 counter card or business-card size). Test it with your own phone before printing a big batch.
